Bohnanza – nutritious bean-filled fun

We had a delightful evening with our sons, daughter-in-law, and one of our students. I bought in pizza and R & S made a fabulous apple crumble for dessert. Fizzy wine, fine cyder and the evening was completed with Mario Kart and Bohnanza.

D was working till 6 so we played Mario Kart before he arrived. This can only be played with 4 and there were 5 of us. Our solution was to rotate the controllers around the group with one person dropping out each round. This meant you kept changing driver and kart, which could be hilarious as well as challenging.

After dinner we played Bohnanza. If you haven’t played it yet, it is a lot of fun. It’s funny how you develop favourites among the odd bean characters in the pack. I quite like wax beans. Even though they are not as valuable as other beans, I have won a game in the past with a wax bean empire. I enjoy that the game is simple and easy to learn, and yet there are also possibilities of subtlety of strategy.
